The New Zealand BCP "Lord's" Prayer

The New Zealand Book of Common Prayer contains a wonderful version of the "Lord's" Prayer. Since it directly follows the "Lord's" Prayer in the Maori language, I imagine that someone translated it back from Maori into English, with wonderful results. I highly recommend A New Zealand Prayer Book, He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa, from the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia (HarperSanFrancisco, 1989, 1997).

Eternal Spirit, Earth-Maker, Pain-Bearer, Life-Giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving Godde in whom is heaven: The hallowing of your name echo thoughout the Universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world!Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hopes and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and testing, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen.

(In Netscape 4.7, this is nothing special, but in Internet Explorer, it's a fun little function called "marquee.") This is one
of the few times I'll recommend IE over NN.
